SHERIFF
The Sheriff is the "Chief Law Enforcement Officer" for the County. The Sheriff's duties generally fall into two broad important categories - Law Enforcement and Administrative.
These duties are specifically to keep the peace within the county, by causing all offenders in his view to enter into bonds, with sureties, appearing and keeping the peace in circuit court, and by committing such offenders in case of refusal. The sheriff is also charged with the duty to quell riots, routs, affrays and unlawful assemblages.
Sheriff Mitchell Mixon was elected in Aug. 2023 and sworn-in on Jan. 02, 2024 by Judge Mark Maples in the George County Courthouse to start his first term.
